A conference in Jordan to discuss the role of scholars in promoting comprehensive Arab security values

The second conference of the Jordanian Scholars Association, in cooperation with the College of Sharia, concluded its activities entitled “The Role of Scholars in Promoting Comprehensive Security Values,” which was held at the University of Jordan on September 25 and lasted for 5 days with the participation of an elite group of politicians, jurists, academics, and media professionals, led by the Director of Jordanian Public Security, Major General Fadel Al-Hamoud. The conference aimed to highlight the role of Jordanian scholars and their great responsibility in clarifying the aspects of the concept of comprehensive security, regardless of its pillars, and promoting its values, through their legal knowledge, in supporting the security situation in Arab society, the task of controlling which is no longer limited to the security services alone, but rather has become the task of the entire society. The president of the conference, Dr. Bassam Al-Amoush – who is the president of the Jordanian Scholars Association – confirmed in his speech at the conference that the choice of the title and topic of the conference came in line with the current stage that the region is witnessing, as Jordan lives in the middle of a region raging with wars and conflicts, which have cast their shadows on Jordan’s stability in the political, economic and social aspects, and may have negative consequences for its security. He pointed out that “there is a need for a serious stance by scholars to do their part, entrusted in their field of knowledge, by calling for wisdom, good advice and conscious guidance, which leads to strengthening the values of comprehensive security and anticipating the future prospects of the region, in which the efforts of individuals and all segments and institutions must be united to create a strong, cohesive society, cooperative in bearing the consequences of the security imbalance that may threaten stability. The research discussed by the conference addressed issues that are likely to be a cause of destabilization of security.” Arab, whether political, intellectual, social or religious, with an attempt to find successful solutions to them, with the aim of eliminating their negatives or alleviating their severity before they fall into them. The research raised topics about intellectual fanaticism, infidelity, revolutionary discourse, democracy and its roots, the scourge of drugs and its negative impact on youth, unemployment, the budget and taxes, and the role of social media in achieving security instead of destabilizing it.
