“Machu Picchu”… How did geography save the treasure of the Inca civilization from Spanish destruction?

When the Spaniards landed their forces in Peru (western South America), they worked with all their might to eliminate the features of Latin civilizations, primarily for a religious motive, as they were civilizations with forbidden religions, and a propaganda motive represented in establishing the idea that these discovered countries contained nothing but savages and rabble that the Spaniards must purify and rid the world of their reactionism. Despite this, some cultural stations survived that cultural massacre, saved by the rugged geography of the Andes Mountains, which represented an obstacle to the advance of the Spanish forces to those areas, and preserved them for later generations to reveal the falsity of the claims of the Spanish occupiers about the countries of the Inca civilization.

Timeless icon

All the progress and technology we have achieved has not prevented many of the mysteries of the past that continue to baffle us to this day, as we saw in the Chinese “Legend of the Terracotta Army,” or a legendary city the likes of which you have never seen before. In order to see it, we have to climb to a height of 2,340 meters in the Andes on the top of a mountain, to be surprised by this mysterious city: Machu Picchu… a city built by the Inca people in Peru more than 600 years ago, which was discovered. By chance, by American explorer Hiram Bingham in the year 1911, when he was climbing a mountain wall to search for Inca ruins that had been destroyed by the Spanish, he discovered this city hidden in the clouds with its wonderful organization and construction. Therefore, Machu Picchu also bears the name of the lost city! The word Machu Picchu (in the Incan language) means the summit of an ancient mountain, and the city is located on the brink of two abysses surrounded by a 600-meter-long slope covered with dense forests, while the Ulu Banba River flows below it, so that all these elements paint a majestic scene of this mysterious city. Therefore, UNESCO classified this city as a World Human Heritage in 1983, in addition to selecting it as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World!

Great civilization

Although the Inca people have evidence of a great civilization, this people did not know writing, so there is no historical record that accurately tells their story or the story of this city. All we have about this civilization is what has been passed down through generations! Therefore, scholars or researchers do not know the date of construction of this city or the reason for its construction, but scholars believe that it was not for living, but rather for offering sacrifices, as scholars found the bodies of large numbers of women in this city. This is consistent with what we know of the Inca people’s worship of the sun and their belief that women were the daughters of the sacred sun! Despite the beauty and genius of the place, this is not the only distinction of Machu Picchu. Rather, the strange thing is that this city was built in a modern style that does not suit an ancient civilization that did not know writing. The city contains small, neat streets, buildings, palaces, gardens, irrigation canals, and bathing ponds. The strange thing is that the entire city is built of large stones stacked on top of each other without any stabilizing tools, and includes many gardens, corridors, luxurious buildings and palaces, canals, irrigation canals, and bathing ponds. Stone stairs connect the gardens and streets of different heights.
