The Moroccan capital, Rabat, hosted an international conference entitled “Arab Contributions to Renewing Rhetoric and Discourse Analysis,” with the aim of shedding light on Arab contributions that charted a different path for themselves, going beyond the limits of benefiting from the Western achievement in enriching Arab knowledge, to enriching the Western achievement itself. The conference chose the rhetorical achievements of the writer Imad Abdel Latif as an example of authentic Arab contributions that stem from a precise awareness of the reality of Western knowledge and a deep awareness of the prospects for its development, so that this path works to explore these horizons, based primarily on the needs of Arab society. The conference started from the premise that contemporary Arabic studies take different paths towards the contemporary Western achievement. Some of them are concerned with conveying the Western achievement to the Arab reader through translation, presentation, and summarization, and some are concerned with applying Western methodologies to Arab blogs. The conference also shed light on the paths that attempt to combine Western and Arab achievements into one framework, and those that take a critical stance on both, and seek to present other alternatives.
